Las Virgenes School District
Residents of Calabasas real estate are within the Las Virgenes Unified School District. The district, consisting of 14 public schools, serves the western area of Los Angeles County, including Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village and small sections of West Hills within Los Angeles. The school district is highly acclaimed and is a consideration of many families who purchase Calabasas homes for sale, ensuring that their children have access to the best schools.
The largest school within this district is Agoura High which has approximately 2400 students. The Las Virgenes Unified School District is a K-12 district with headquarters in Calabasas, California. The offices have been moved several times. When it was first created, the offices were located in Calabasas. They were moved in 1974 to Westlake Village and then to a building on North Las Virgenes Road in 1990.
The Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) was founded by an English immigrant, Arthur Edward Wright. He was a plasterer and had only an elementary education. The A.E. Wright Middle School is named after him. In the 1980s the Las Virgenes Education Foundation was formed to help promote technology in the classroom. When cutback for education in California were experienced in 2003, the Foundation helped by sponsoring a fundraising effort. They also began operating the district’s accelerated summer school program.

Another benefit gained when choosing Calabasas homes for sale was the approval of the development of the Las Virgenes District’s alternative Independent Study School. This was approved in 2006 and offers students two options. The students can report to the school once a week to meet with an independent study teacher or they may choose K-12 Home Independent Study, which provides an independent study curriculum for students who are home schooled.
